Pomelo

The Pomelo, or Chinese grapefruit, is a large citrus fruit originally from Malaysia. Because they are generally larger than grapefruit there is more tasty flesh. The flesh can be yellow or coral pink and is usually not as juicy as a grapefruit. Pomelos are typically available from December through May.

Korean students look to Malaysia for global education

Malaysia is coming out as a prime destination for education for Korean students. Malaysia has a British influence and relatively low price so that it can rival other international schools for those people who can't afford schools in Great Britain or North America. Also for Koreans, the level of English in Malaysia is high in comparison to other Asian countries.

Logo and slogan contest for golden National Day

"Keranamu Malaysia” has been the slogan for the last six years. The 50th National Day slogan is “Malaysia Gemilang”. The government has invited all Malaysians to participate in the contest to create a new logo and slogan along the lines of “Malaysia Gemilang”. The details of the contest will be announced in newspapers as well as TV and radio later this week.

Malysia to rebuild ruins

Malaysia is planning to restore the ruins of the fortress A' Famosa in the historical city of Malacca. The fortress was built in 1511. The wall and the structures within the confines will be reconstructed. Once the restoration is completed it will be one of the prominent historical structures in the nation. Visitors can travel back in time to relive history.

As part of the Visit Malaysia 2007 campaign, Malaysia is hoping to bring in 10million visitors from Singapore. There will be a street carnival and musical fireworks competition in an effort to boost tourism 15 percent. With some 200 events planned throughout the year, Malaysia is confident that it can attract 20million tourists.

176 illegal Myanmarese immigrants detained

Citizens of Myanmar set up a village in Malaysia and passed themselves off as official United Nations refugees. District enforcement workers and civilian volunteers raided the tent village on Sunday. The officials had received complaints about the suspected illegal encampment prior to the raid on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
