On Thursday, Malaysia’s Federal Traffic Police chief SAC II Nooryah Md Anvar said that one way to reduce the number of motorcycle fatalities would be to build lanes specifically for motorcycles nationwide along federal roads. This move is a welcome one since just last year there were 104,302 accidents where a motorcycle was involved throughout the nation. Of those accidents, 3,693 people were killed.Original source: Bernama. Special Lanes For M-bikes Can Help Reduce Fatalities Tags: accidents • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

On January 19 an error occurred in an intranet system that resulted in an erroneous earthquake alert advisory being released. The advisory released around 11:00 AM about an earthquake/tsunami alert Level 2 with a magnitude of 7.0 that happened at 10:45 near northern Sumatra. It went on that tremors were likely to be felt as well as the possibility of a destructive tsunami, so people were advised to stay away from the beaches. This is the first time such an error has occurred and the Seismology Institute regrets any confusion. It came to light that there was an earthquake measuring 5.9 south of Java, but a technical glitch sent the old warning to everyone including the media. There should have been no tsunami warning.Original source: Sun2Surf. Malaysia red-faced over mistaken tsunami warning Tags: science • 0 Comments. - Permalink |
