Langkawi Ironman triathlon

The 2007 Langkawi Ironman, "The Toughest Show on Earth", was hot and humid this year. Xavier Le Floch from France and Nicole Leder from Germany bested their competition. Malaysia's star women's triathlete, Dr Fiona Lim, was affected by the heat as well, and couldn't come in under 11 hours.

Salon on wheels to help single moms

What a great idea! A salon that comes to you. ZASS!! bus was founded by Fara La'jam as a way to help single moms, the physically challenged, the poor, and Muslim converts earn a living. The bus will be at university campuses on weekdays to cater to students. Friday is the bus's day off, Saturday is for house calls, and Sunday Craven Cafe, Ampang.

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services is meeting with the prime minister on March 6. They have high hopes for salary resolution for civil servants. If the salary issues get resolved then civil servants will no longer have to supplement their income with part-time jobs.

Bank Pertanian shows largest profit yet

in 2006 Bank Pertanian Malaysia recorded the highest pre-tax profit since the bank was created: RM34.4 million. By focusing on downstream industries, the bank intends to show an even larger profit this year. The bank wants to allocate 60-percent of its funds to downstream industries by 2010.

Tourism to Malaysia is growing. The expected total for 2007 is RM21.1 billion from RM17.56 billion in 2006. Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan the government has allocated RM456 million for tourism expansion.
