White coffee a favorite in Malaysia

By Crissy at 02/23/07 20:01

While the name is white coffee, the color is not. The coffee beans are roasted in Ipoh's Old Town, so that must be where the name comes from. Chinese migrants brought the coffee to Malay tin mines in the 19th century.

Malaysia has HIV problem

By Crissy at 02/11/07 16:56
Malaysia is in grave danger of its number of HIV infected surging to 300,000 by 2015 spreading from high-risk groups to the general public. No longer limited to drug addicts, the virus that caused AIDS is quickly spreading to women, factory workers, truck drivers, and fishermen. In an attempt to curb the spread, there are needle exchange programs and free antiretroviral drugs especially for women and children at government clinics.

By Crissy at 02/08/07 20:57
Beh Kim Un was born in Penang and has really lived the freewheeling hippie life. He's traveled abroad and really tasted life. The best way to share the life that he tasted was to open restaurants. So Kim opened five, four in Melbourne and one in Kuala Lumpur.

How do Malaysian students fare in UK schools?

By Crissy at 02/08/07 20:45
Twenty years ago Malaysian students in the UK seemed to be disinterested and kept to themselves. Twenty years later, not much has changed. Why accept the scholarships? Why not just stay home in Malaysia? Are they afraid of stepping out of the comfort zone?

Malaysia is fixated on toilets

By Crissy at 02/08/07 20:11
Malaysia is beautiful. It has immaculate beaches and ancient rain forests. And yet, the toilets are nauseatingly disgusting. So bad, in fact, that the government is going to start college courses in lavatory management. Enrollment should begin in three years.
